Breadcrumbs, Scripts, etc.

Post by *JohnFredC »

It's worth taking the time to look through the changes offered in a TC competitor's upcoming new version. Many enhancements requested in this forum are addressed: BreadCrumbs, Renaming Scripts, Plugin Architecture enhancements. Wild. Lots of screen captures.

"the breadcrumbs bar lets you click on different parts of the path to go to them. You can also drag & drop items on parts of the path to move them there."

Yeah, like the only area of comparison between apps is price... :/

Both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I see a lot of work from DO site. Some features are similiar to TC. Some are taken from Vista's explorer. I have strong feeling that I've read about some features before.

Something like file tooltip from here has been discussed here :-o

Hmm... After reading whole reffered page I can only say: "Wow".

Really? Seems quite useful to me.

You are in a folder and see the path, say: C:\This\Is\A_nice\Path

Click 'This' and C:\This becomes your current folder.

Drag a file to the word 'This' in the path and your file is moved or copied there.

Pretty handy... That said, their implementation seems awful.

Have you ever tried at TC to press the SHIFT key and click on "This" ?
Works already fine ...

The Dopus panel path/title bar is active for dropping files: Image. In the image, the drop target in the pathbar is underlined.

The Dopus breadcrumb bar is also active for dropping files, but play this video to see how it works... looks really well designed: see how it morphs between the breadcrumb control and a prompting text pathbox? Supports both mouse/tablet users and keyboardists!

Too bad the functionality doesn't appear to be integrated with the panel path/title bar. Why clutter up the interface with redundant info/controls? On the other hand, perhaps it is just a typical Dopus toolbar control, so the user may have freedom about which toolbars (if any) to show it on.

What I meant was that I dont undertand it as a feature... I mean, what that guy does in that movie clip, I do in totalcmd in not even 2 sec.s using the keys... I am not much of a mouseman really.. But on the otherhand.. when I think about it now.. I guess it makes sense if you use the mouse alot.

Breadcrumbs is not about drag and drop to path's components or clicking them to navigate to a folder (what is avaliable both in TC6.5 and DO8 afaik), but about ability to quick navigate using current path (drop down menus on arrows down, with contents of folder).

For me Tc is the best, but there's something clear these 2 guys from Directory Opus know how to sell their product very well.

I'm quite sure that many new users will choose DO9 over TC7 (even having to pay a yearly license) because it's nicer and its webpage much more attractive, sad but true. :(

BTW have you seen icfu new avatar, close to heresy  :!: .

Well.. I understood that too. I quick navigate faster with keys than using mouse.. with or without breadcrumbs.... I can also point out that I like a clean table...
