Thank you for this tool!

Anyway, it is time that Mr. Ghisler integrates this ultra-fast search directly into TC. I think most of TC users are using NTFS-Filesystem and the normal TC search is damn slow. Hope to see a built-in function very soon!

Hello!
is it possible you can add the search path and not searching the whole drive.
Unfortunately the search done by tfind and similar tools are done through the whole MFT, this affect to the content of the whole disk. (IIRC)

As workaround, with vtfind can be done the next:
If you have vtfind in a button for the toolbar of TC or with an extended command, be sure that the field for the start path is empty.
In this way, the field "List filter" in vtfind, get the current path of TC.
After of perform the search, you could press the button for filter or CTRL+F for limit the search results to the current path.
I can read English, but... I write like Tarzan. (sorry)

When I start the program there is about a 15sec delay before the buttons (f.e. history drop down) start working. There is also a delay when closing the program.

Takes the fun out of using it.

Any ideas?

hi Sombra,

thanks for the advice, it works nicely. Also it pretty fast.

i am now thinking of using this tool to generate all files in drive, then feed the list to a tool that search for text within the files .... if you have came across such need your experience will be valuable.

thanks for your time and effort : )

my regards

Hello's

2brahman
When I start the program there is about a 15sec delay before the buttons (f.e. history drop down) start working. There is also a delay when closing the program.
I experimented this sometimes. But I can not reproduce it now, no idea why it happens by the moment, sorry. If I found some clue, I will give a try.
Changing the ini location... does happen the issue too?

Getting the whole list of files from a big drive in vtfind is a bit hard (it is not optimized enough) As clue for speed reasons, maybe you could use the command-line tool tfind.exe located in subfolder "Res\" for get the whole list.
May i ask you create shortcuts for controls such as

Search text box
The development of vtfind is stopped, but this task seems easy to add. What shortcut could be useful for set the focus in search field on this case? ALT+S, CTRL+S, other ....

Hello ehab,

OK, I will add shortcuts for: Search text and Search results fields.

Shortcuts for the rest of commands are supported currently:
Start search (ENTER)
Go to file/Path: F7/Shift+F7
Focus in filter filed: CTRL+Shift+F

Hello Sombra

I nearly finished the german translation, and this is why I tried to test all features. Now I have some questions and remarks.

a) Version 1.0.11
On your website you offer version 1.0.10, in the posting above version 1.0.11. Why you don't "release" version ...11?

b) Commands "Edit - Copy ..."
I do not understand what the 5 "Copy" commands in the ""Commands-Menu" are doing. I used them and see no result. What are they doing?

c) Sorted list Ctrl-U:
Sorting in which order: Filename? Path + File? Which order is displayed if there is no sorting?

d) List filter - Bug?
If "set current path to filter" is selected all is fine.
BUT...:
- I do't select this feature.
- d:\test is displayed in filter list
- I go to d:\test\data\project\file1.doc, and d:\test is still in filter (OK, fine)
- Now I want to filter with d:\test - but it is not possible, because the Icon only uses the current path.
How can I use the displayed path instead of the current path?

e) German translation:
- What is the right definition for Filename and "language": German or Deutsch?
- German is a "long language" (long strings) and a standard problem in all translations are truncated strings. Maybe you can increase all text-positions to the maximum to avoid truncation?
- Menu "Integration TC: - Edit Usercmd.ini". The button needs an extra string for translation because the combination of "Edit" and "Usercmd.ini" can not be used in (correct) German.

f) Preload vtfind.exe at .. Drives:
I don't understand this feature - what happens here on the selected drives?

I will post my translation here if I can check it with some of the missing informations above.

Regards

Peter

Edit: Problem solved here:
http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=206767

When searchin for DOC-Files and then pressing button "Go to file/path" I get this

Possibly an error occurred. Archive listing wasn't retrieved.
and a new tab in TC called 003.doc.

Hi Peter!
On your website you offer version 1.0.10, in the posting above version 1.0.11. Why you don't "release" version ...11?
I don't know.
I do not understand what the 5 "Copy" commands in the ""Commands-Menu" are doing. I used them and see no result. What are they doing?
These commands copy to clipboard the name, path... of the item selected in the search result list.
Sorting in which order: Filename? Path + File? Which order is displayed if there is no sorting?
Yes, with "sorted list" enabled, the list is sorted according path+file.
When it is disabled, the list is shown in same order that the files are found in the master file table (MFT).
d) List filter - Bug?
Sorry, I didn't understand.
CTRL+F or the button for filter to the right, is used for activate/deactivate the filter with the text in the field.
The button with a blue folder, catch the path of the selected item in the list and set it as filter.
Hint: you can type any letter too, for filter the list.
What is the right definition for Filename and "language": German or Deutsch?
I`m not sure, German is in English while that Deutsch is the native name. Please feel free.
Menu "Integration TC: - Edit Usercmd.ini". The button needs an extra string for translation because the combination of "Edit" and "Usercmd.ini" can not be used in (correct) German.
Ok I will.
f) Preload vtfind.exe at .. Drives:
I don't understand this feature - what happens here on the selected drives?
If this option is checked, when vtfind is loaded, then automatically a general search for all files is performed in the selected drives. In this way the content of the MFT is "cached".
I can read English, but... I write like Tarzan. (sorry)
