thumbnail view of PDF file

Post by *kanke »

I have acrobat 9.0 pro installed. When I changed to thumbnail view in the TC 7.50A, I can only see the generic pdf file icon, it doesn't show the thumbnail of the PDF file. Is there anything that I need to config? (btw: thumbnail view of photo files are fine, I use faststone and I can see the small images on thumbnail view)

Thanks!

Works here without any problems with:
Configuration -> Operation -> Thumbnails -> Use Explorer method (OLE2) for-> *.* | *.htm *.html

You can always try to use Sumatra PDF based plugin

Thank you fenix!

It used to work fine in my windows xp. It stops working after I upgraded to win 7. Now with Sumatra PDF based plugin, it works fine again!

btw: what's best plugin for office files thumbnail? I have office 2010 installed. PPT file worked ok, but word and excel files are not showing thumbnails.

If you can see Office thumbnails in Explorer then htmlview should be enough:

If that doesn't work you will need to play with MultiLister plugin.

P.S. I am not sure but I think you need to use "Save thumbnail" option in Word for each file if you want to see thumbs in the future. Power Point saves previews automatically.

Hi!

I can't get PDF thumbnails to work with TC 8.01 64 on Win 7.

Explorer doesn't show PDF thumbnails, either (maybe because I haven't got Adobe Reader?). So "Use Explorer method (OLE2) for-> *.* | *.htm *.html" doesn't work.

I do have the slister64 plugin, using the latest SumatraPDF. The other plugin seems to work only with TC 32.

Any ideas? Thank you!

You will need a 64-bit build of SumatraPDF for 64-bit TC and Explorer on 64-bit Windows.

Ah. Too bad. It seems there's no "official" 64-bit build of Sumatra PDF. I'm a bit sceptical about using the unofficial build.

I use all updates from http://xhmikosr.1f0.de/sumatrapdf/
Never had any problems with the x64 versions.

I simply use stand-alone 32-bit SumatraPDF.exe and it works regardless of OS/TC architecture.

Hi, in case it breaks, just re-install SumatraPDF 64bit works fine. The issue I had is that as I install everything via 'choco', the option to make SumatraPDF as thumbnail generator in Windows, it was not set. You actually have to launch the setup. It shows options. There you can select to make SumatraPDF as preview generator for PDF, Windows-wide. Then relaunch TC, and just with the default Thumbnail setting it will indeed show the PDF previews. No TC extra plugin needed. In List too, just select "Explorer Preview" or button 8, and the PDF will show.
