space bar for checking folder size

If you have enough access rights to enter folder, TC should be able to calculate dir size and to display it when you're pressing Space. This works under W7 too.

Maybe you've disabled corresponding option, try to enable it: Configuration - Operation - Calculate space occupied by subdirectories - when selecting with the space bar.

I`m using 7.50a, right after installation of TC on "clean" XP SP3 calculation of dir size by pressing space didn`t work. I got to Config menu and found that "when selecting with space bar" option was enabled. I turned that off and then again on and pressed "Apply", now it works.
