tree view

Post by *yuit »

Hi,

I like to have total commander in tree view as default, but when ever I press the button for a different drive the view changes to something else. I would just like to make it stay at treeveiw.

thanks for any help

oh, and while I'm at it, I have another question: is it possible to get the "my computer" folder in total commander ? also have the all the drives in the treeview (just like explorer). this would make for faster switching between drives.

Commands -> Open Desktop Folder -> My Comuter
But the "cm_OpenDrives" command is properly what you're looking for.
I just tested the tree mode (never use it) and I cant get this to work in tree mode either. Also if u want fast drive swiching, use the alt+f1/f2 shortcuts.
my 1st post in the new forum :D

You need to change the drive in the OTHER window (the one with the files) to stay in tree view mode. Reason: Tree view always goes to the dir/drive of the file list panel. Yes, this is a strange behaviour, but it was requested by many old Norton Commander users...

What I would really like is a seperate pane with a tree-view where you can see all drives. When clicking a folder it should open in the active pane.

P.S. Sorry for answering to such an old thread

Does something like Alt-F10 help a bit?

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Whoo, took some time generating that list
Good thing it doesn't take that long every time I want to use the directory tree.
But it was not what I was looking for. It's hard finding what you're looking for when you can't colapse/expand folers.

You're welcome. I assume you know of Ctrl-F8 and the option in Configuration - Options - Display - Tree: Press ENTER to open dir in other window...

When I'm using that alt+F10 thing I always navigate by typing the name of the folder I want to go to, but what should I do if there's more than one folder with the same name? I've tried TAB and the arrow keys but that didn't work...

You should press F1 or click the Help button.
There it says, "Press CTRL+ENTER to move the cursor to the next match.".

Yes, I knew of those. Too bad you can type something like C:\Windows\System32\*.dll to show only the .dll files. Or can you? This time I did look in the help file... :D

Well, not quite that way. You can either type cd c:\windows\system32 into the command line or into the Current dir box above the file panels (which you can activate either by clicking on it, or by pressing Shift-F6 when the cursor is on [..], or by executing internal command "cm_editpath=2912;Edit path field above file list" which you can add to the Button Bar or define a shortcut for it) and then pres Ctrl-F12 to invoke a custom filter.
Don't know of any faster/more_efficient way, sorry.

Guess I can just sort the dir by extension. It's just that I kind of like how it works in DOS with the dir command. Makes finding files in large folders like system32 easier...
