USEFUL INI SETTINGS

Post by *pdavit »

What would you think of collecting a list of INI tuning configurations that are widely-accepted and can be used almost "blindly" just by copy-pasting them in the INI files? I'm talking about those settings that need to be configured manually.

Ok, there are different tastes and working behaviours but, hell, standardisation never hurts!

So, here is a small example of settings that I cannot live without them (that's just a tiny sample to get things started):

For wincmd.ini:

* SortUpper=2 - For the famous natural sorting. Bringing computers closer to human ways of thinking!
* ReverseHistory=1 (new) - I always liked the idea of last in first out! ;)
* RenameSelOnlyName=1 (new) - Well 98% of the cases I'm renaming just the file name after all
* StartupScreen=0 - Improve start up time and since I'm a registered user I don't need to be reminded about that any way! ;)

For wcx_ftp.ini:

* FtpInBackground=1 - So that you can keep on using TC while downloading. I have the setting to only have one TC instance ON so I need this feature badly! ;)
* TcpKeepAlive=1 (new) - To avoid connection breaking on certain firewalls/routers

PS: Bear in mind that what I want to achieve with this thread it's a collection of widely-accepted options that will fit the majority of user needs who can save the info within a text file and use easily in the future by copy-pasting the settings. In addition I'm talking about manual settings and not changes to ini files sourced from changes in the configuration section of TC.

Hello,
• I agree; I support this idea. The default in *.INI files is really more than "poor"...

This thread will be helpful. Here are some settings I care about.

CompareVertical=0
1: Show compare by content windows above each other
0: Side by side

LongInStatus=0
Show long name in status bar in mode view-full. (1/0)

RestrictInterface=
Disable parts of the user interface. Just build the sum of the following options:
1=Start menu
2=Command line
4=Buttonbar change
8=Drive right click menu
16=File right click menu
32=Directory hotlist change
64=FTP (CTRL+N, CTRL+F)
128=ENTER key (run programs, open files)
256=File system plugins

SpaceMovesDown=0
1= When selecting files with <SPACEBAR>, move down to next file (as with <INSERT>)

...and some more:

Aligned extension=1 - File extension is shown left aligned

DriveisCD=FGH - Define drives F, G and H as CD-ROM drives. When copying from these drives, Total Commander will not copy the read only attribute. Useful for network CD drives which are not detected automatically.

ToolTipDelay=500 - Delay in milliseconds, until descriptions for the buttons in the button bar are shown (default = 500)

[Shortcuts]
CA+C=cm_CopyFullNamesToClip
C+H=cm_SwitchHidSys
CA+X=cm_CopyNamesToClip
C+S=cm_ShowOnlySelected
CA+TAB=cm_SyncChangeDir
A+P=cm_editpath
A+E=cm_NextCommand
CA+/=cm_SaveSelection
A+Z=cm_MatchSrc

[DriveHints] User defined drive description for drive selection
E=ZIP drive One line with a drive letter for each drive you want to rename

What does this do? I thought i had stumbled upon a function that'd show the whole file with the extension, but when i rename the file i only have to typoe a filename and the extension (for instance .jpg) will remain the same.... but nothing happened when i insterted that one in top of the .ini file

Cheers

Restart---

:)   Hi !
• That works. But you have to close / restart TC ...
- Or else, the new instruction isn't loaded.

:) Hi!
• Did you try by the classic right-click >>> local-menu >> Rename?
• I always use this at home, no problem.
¤ Moreover, I heard that using F2 when remapping the keys isn't a good idea, since F2 is already used s in TC-program for reread dirs (refresh)...

Claude

Non, mon vieux, c'est pas impossible !
Double-check your .INI! I've remapped rename to F2 (and I use Ctrl+R to reread) as well and it works without any problems. Looks like this:
[Configuration]
RenameSelOnlyName=1

keymania

Post by *Clo »

Hi !
• Sorry, but it is NOT the default yet... From the 6.02 Help:
F2     Reread source window

2Leif
• The "Rename" behaviour at sybariten's looks the same than in Explorer (rename the whole string)
• Maybe could you explain him the exact handling you did to remap that key? Personally, I didn't catch the "keymania", hence I've less problems :P Clavier = ras le bol !
:mrgreen:   Friendly regards,
