-[TC8.5b1] My Computer and My Documents as drive buttons

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

-[TC8.5b1] My Computer and My Documents as drive buttons

Post by *Samuel »

Drive drop-down list (Alt+F1/Alt+F2): Show links to "My Computer" and "My Documents" Configurable via. ShowExtraDrives in wincmd.ini
May I ask to add the new entries "My Computer" and "My Documents" also to the drive buttons and not only to the drive drop-down list?

It would be nice if the ini option "DriveBarHide" could be extended to hide this entries as well.

Currently this isn't planned, at least not as a default option, because the risk increases that the bar is wrapped to more lines than before.

A by default disabled option would be fine.

Could you please consider it for one of the next betas?
I really like the new entries, but I only use drive buttons. Using Alt+F1 is not very convenient.

Why not use the breadcrumb bar? Just click on the triangle to the left of the current path.

I would prefer the option of a drive button too. I have only 12 drive buttons now, and room for 12 more.

The little triangle on the left of the breadcrumb bar is just to small and therefore to inconvenient to click on regularly. For that it would have to be at least twice the current size.

Did you try to change "OverrideDpi" parameter?
It could be a solution to make button bigger.

As Henrie stated the little triangle is just too small. But even more important: I have to click on a very small area and select the entry in a sub menu. It is much easier to click on an always visible button. (I really really like TC gives that fast way to access my drives)

Slightly Offtopic:
I dont use the breadcrumb bar at all. I really like the functionallity that clicking on a folder in the current path brings me there, but again the additional submenu from the breadcrumb bar is to complicated.

So I use "InplaceRenamePath=2" that allows me to just shorten the path without the overhead the breadcrumb bar brings along. (I can still navigate to subfolders after shortening the path)

This would scale the whole window, or am I wrong?

@ghisler(Author):
Currently there is plenty of space available. You brought me to an even better idea. TC could add a new Setting: "DriveBarAdditionalEntries=..."

It could provide buttons for Computer, Desktop, Recycler or even FTP. (like the small triangle in the breadcrumb bar does)

Could you please consider it?
