Image as a folder thumbnail view?

Post by *Shoomyrovich »

In one of past versions of TC I could go to the folder and name one of the images that could be found in that folder like this: folder.jpg and that image would be there like a thumbnail of that folder. Now in this newest version 7.55 I tried the same thing and it doesn't work. :( I dont think that authors have deleted this option because it was great, and I just need help to enable it. Please help me. When I go to thumbnail mode, my folders look like this photo that I uploaded to be my avatar, and i would like if that could look like image that i named folder.jpg.
Please answer, I really need this badly. Thanks a lot.
Help from author of TC could be very useful,too. THANK YOU!

Try adding
WmfAllowed=3
to your wincmd.ini section [Configuration].

Try adding
WmfAllowed=3
to your wincmd.ini section [Configuration].
First of all, let me ask you if I was going to the right side...
I have turned on TotalCommander and than gone to Configuration meni and than to Change Settings Files Directly, and than i have got a notepad document which starts with this:
[Configuration]
InstallDir=c:\totalcmd
firstmnu=3192
Aligned extension=1
Is that right? Am I on the right way?
If I was wrong please tell me more about where I can find all that and where I should add WmfAllowed=3
Thanks

Hello, Shoomyrovich.

The wincmd.ini file is the right file.
The first section in this file is titled [Configuration].
As Christian already stated, this is the right section to add the entry WmfAllowed=3.

It does not matter where in this section you put the entry. Only do not put it into another section. And make sure that there are not multiple entries for WmfAllowed=<value>.

Kind regards,
Karl

Nothing happened...I have added WmfAllowed=3 in that section and nothing happened, even it slower shows thumbnails of photos. Really dont know what to do...it is still the same, same litle icon of folder like my avatar image shows. Please help me more. And yes, there are no more WmfAllowed entries, i have searched for them and surely there are no more. Thx

Hello, Shoomyrovich.

Not quite sure whether it will help. Yet, very often it is required to stop and restart Total Commander after having edited wincmd.ini manually.

Maybe your issue is unrelated to WmfAllowed? This parameter is totally absent from my wincmd.ini.

Nevertheless, it works for me:
+ I switch to Thumbnail View in Total Commander
+ In a random folder a JPG file is renamed to folder.jpg
+ I go to the parent folder of that folder
+ T.C. displays folder.jpg as the thumbnail for that folder

Total Commander 7.55a
Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit

Kind regards,
Karl

Try to run TC with fresh ini and see if this solve the problem, copy the following text and go to the empty part of your TC button bar, right click, paste and run TC by clicking on the created button.

Code: Select all

TOTALCMD#BAR#DATA
%COMMANDER_PATH%\TOTALCMD.EXE
/i=%%temp%%\thumb_test.ini
%COMMANDER_PATH%\TOTALCMD.EXE
TOTALCMD
%COMMANDER_PATH%\

-1
If you can see the thumbs OK when you start TC with fresh ini then you must have some conflicted thumb settings in your Wincmd.ini. Try to play with these settings to see which one cause the problem.

Works fine for me even w/o WmfAllowed parameter in wincmd.ini (i.e. with default value -1) in both systems:

Windows 7 64-bit
Windows XP 32-bit SP3

Total Commander 7.55a

If I put file folder.jpg into a folder its thumb shows this picture only even if another pictures exist in same folder.

Shoomyrovich, which Windows version you're using?

ts4242 just wants to say:

1. Please copy the text of the code section.
2. Put your mouse pointer on your TC button bar
3. do a right mouseclick
4. select "insert" command

=> this will create a new button for you

Clicking on this button will start a new TC which does not use your settings, but the default ones.

If you can reproduce the behavior with default settings, then the fault is with your OS.

If the failure is gone, then the fault is with the settings at your wincmd.ini

Fresh ini means an empty TC configuration file.
Starting TC with fresh ini, make TC uses its default settings and don't use any plugin of any kind.

Usually I do this when I see TC behave strange in order to know if that strange behavior caused by TC itself or by any plugin or settings I have changed recently.

BTW: to start TC with empty ini file without creating new toolbar button, do the following:
1- copy the following line

Code: Select all

%COMMANDER_PATH%\TOTALCMD.EXE /i=%temp%\thumb_test_2.ini
2- Paste it in TC command line and press Enter
