Search dialog not totally visible

Post by *Cooperdale »

Here's what I get after doing a search for a file:

The window is always cut short and there are a lot of graphical glitches.

Hello, cooperdale.

As I have not experienced this problem, I wonder whether resizing the search dialogue box will not solve the issue, because T.C. remembers the position and the size of the search dialogue box between sessions.

Cheers,
Karl

Yes, TC remembers the last size of the expanded dialog - please just resize it to the size you need.

No, sorry I forgot to mention it, but it doesn't remember the size in my case.

And it doesn't extend to full window unless there are results inside. But the next time I use it it's cut short again. It happens if I don't close TC and if I close and reopen it, no difference.

Hello, Cooperdale.

This sounds as if Total Commander might not be able to write its wincmd.ini file.
Could you check which INI file T.C. uses (Help => About Total Commander) and check the date and time when it was last modified? It should have a pretty recent last modified timestamp.

By the way:
Does the reported problem affect both versions of T.C. 8.0 beta1?
+ 8.0ß1 64-bit
+ 8.0ß1 32-bit

Cheers,
Karl

It happens only with the 64-bit version, beta1 and beta2.

And wincmd.ini gets updated regularly, I just checked.

Could you try with a fresh wincmd.ini, please? If that helps, can you send me your ini file to beta at ghisler dot com?

I renamed the ini file so a new one was created from scratch, but the problem is still there. The window doesn't remember its position. I have to double click it twice to get to the desired size. Here's screenshots to clarify. The first is what I get before the search every time. The second is what I get after the search, third after a double click, fourth after another double click.

I can confirm this - beta 2 on Win7 x64. Does not happen with beta 1. I shall try other configurations when I get time.

Windows 7 64 bit - Total Commander 64 bit - Fresh wincmd.ini file - First search is ok, subsequent one wrong size.

I will post step-by-step instructions soon - 32 bit working correctly.

Yes, please post instructions - I tried with a fresh INI, but the size is always correct. However, I get a strange black bar on the right side of the dialog on the very first start...

I can confirm the problem if the search window is maximized.
Restore, Maximize temporary expands the result list to the full height, until you start a new search.

OK, after several tries, I think that I found a way to reproduce your problem:

1. Start TC with fresh INI
2. Open search dialog
3. Maximize, do not start search!
4. Close search dialog
5. Open search dialog
6. Start search now
-> Wrong size

Is it that what you mean?

Yes.

Fresh.ini is not necessary if the TC starts up with
SearchMax=1
in resolution section of wincmd.ini.
