Yes, it's a known problem - the space is shared with the number of bytes (used e.g. when copying). Unfortunately it's not possible to resize dynamically, sorry.

Same issue spotted here. This is a low priority bug but to my opinion it should be fixed. Some users DO delete large amounts of files on a regular basis and this information should be correctly displayed on both foreground and background dialogs.
By the way, my advice on "...Unfortunately it's not possible to resize dynamically..." is: please give it to someone junior, who does not know it is impossible. They will fix it!
