solved [TC 11.00b1] Right side of History cut off

Post by *petermad »

If the Directory history if opened with the right side button and there is not enough space for the list on the right side of TC's main window (as when TC is maximized) the the right side of the Directory history is cut off. See: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/cutoffhistory.png

Strange, here it is shown aligned to the right screen edge when I maximize TC or move it to the right of the screen.
On which Windows version do you get this?

I have just tried it, it doesn't happen on Windows 7.

The only way I could reproduce it is on Windows 10/11 when I first open the history normally, and then expand it to include skipped entries with Alt+Shift+Down. Then the list was expanded to the right and disappeared at the screen border. I will fix that. Unofrtunately I have no idea how to reproduce the problem you have. :(

In Windows 11 its opened correct in this case.
It starts from some point in the middle and expands to the border on the right side of the screen

Do you have a secondary screen to the right of that screen?

Yes on Windows 7, but not on Windows 10, where I see the same problem: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/historycutoffwin10.png

On Windows 7 I can see the edge of the History window on the second screen.

AntonyD wrote: 2023-05-04, 10:22 UTC ...... In addition, This list appears unclearly relative to which object.. If you expand the Total window to full screen and call this list for the right panel with the mouse, and then click any key-letter, then the filtering field will appear somewhere OUTSIDE the screen|monitor. It looks like it's just a bug.

But even when we try to open the filter field in the left panel, we see a very unaligned position of all elements:
https://ibb.co/nrQPhQ3
So - I already reported that earlier - but just could not take a proper picture of this case. Win10. 2 monitors, but I can reproduce the problem on rightmost monitor - and on the rightmost border - after which there is no more space. So literally speaking - this new list is hiding "somewhere" outside the visible area of my screen.
And I also pointed out the second part of this error - the lack of alignment of the newly displayed search sub-elements on the screen.
Also, when trying to display them on the rightmost border of the rightmost monitor, we will get their almost complete absence in the visible part. They are drawn somewhere further to the right - although there is no longer a visible area to display.

P.S. Yep definitely that this new list and all related sub-elements for filtering|searching are rendering without taking into account - on which screen they are now when TC runs in dual-monitor system. I placed TC on leftmost monitor and reproduced the problem and saw that all correctly was rendered BUT mostly on the right monitor already - and not fully on the left one - as I expected.

Also another moment - when I remove loooooooooooooooooong folders names from that list by SHIFT+DEL - the overall width of this list is not changing - it states the same big. Only when I will close the list and reopen it again - the width will get smaller as I expected. But I expected this immediately after removal list item.

It is not just a dual screen problem - as I wrote earlier to the question of whether I was using dual screen:
Yes on Windows 7, but not on Windows 10, where I see the same problem: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/historycutoffwin10.png
My Windows 10 is on a laptop with no extra screens.

What screen resolution (e.g. 1920x1080) and scale factor (e.g. 100%) do you use on the screen with the problem?
I still can't reproduce it here. :(

On Windows 7 I The main screen is 1920x1080 and the secondary right side screen is 1280x1024
On Windows 10 the screen is 1366x768

I use no scaling neither by system or by TC's dpi setting.
I use Microsoft Sans Serif,8,b for file lists and main window and Microsoft Sans Serif,8 for dialog boxes, but I also see it with a fresh ini file using Segoe UI,9

One thing though - I do not use Segoe UI as the system menu font, I use Arial, 10 - also on Windows 10

If you think that the system menu font, could be of relevance, then here is a reg file, in case you want to test my setting with Arial font:

Win10 system
1920*1080 leftmost standalone monitor
laptop screen as rightmost monitor has 1366*768
DPI I do not change. SO it as-is. 100%

btw what do you mean - can't reproduce - can you record a screencast - in order to understand how it's working on your comp?
Because even deeply theoretically - I can't imagine - which code did you apply in case when you must render menu/window/list toooooo nearby with screen's border? Obviously that something mathematically first of all should be processed - so you can obtain more-or-less proper coordinates in which code will render these objects. So maybe bug somewhere there?
