How to show multi-line tooltip?

Post by *Alextp »

How can I specify (in plugin code) that tooltip shown by my content plugin
is multi-line? E.g. what character need I to use to split lines
in custom column field? I tried #13, #10 - they have no effect (Win98 SE).

You can't. TC removes line breaks, but auto-wraps at spaces if the line becomes too long. If you want to display different information, you should better split them into multiple fields. Users can show fields on multiple lines by specifying \n in the tip configuration.

I want to display in tooltip text file contents (for example, first 10 lines of file). Why TC removes line breaks, it's better not to do it. Can you disable deleting of line breaks in next version?

Line breaks would be great not just for tooltips but also for the thumbnail view and for the "long thumbnail view" which hopefully wil be integrated into TC 7.0 :D

In this post I posted a screenshot about the suggested view:

It is not up to TC to allow line breaks. The "descript.ion" file is based on 4DOS standard.

AFAIK this standard doesn't allow line breaks.

You can use the "files.bbs", which allows line breaks. But it uses short filenames only. :(

If there is a limitation in the information to be retrieved line breaks are not required. But for all other information there should be no such limitation.
