The Command browser in Total Commander is a feature that allows users to select an internal command or manage user-defined commands. It can be accessed in various dialogs using the Command Browser button Command Browser Button (a small button with a magnifying glass icon) or invoked by the cm_CommandBrowser command.

Selecting a command

Selecting a command involves the following steps:

  • Select a category that suits your needs.
  • Use the Filter field to display only commands that contain a particular text in the command, command number, or description.
  • Next, select the specific command you require.
  • Finally, either click the OK button or press Enter to confirm your selection.

The selected command will then be inserted into the dialog box where the command browser was opened, or it will be copied to the clipboard if the command browser was accessed through the cm_CommandBrowser command.

Managing user-defined commands

You can manage the user-defined commands in one the following ways:

  • Select the category usercmd.ini found at the bottom of the category list.
  • For language specific user-defined commands, select the category WCMD_<language code>.ini, which is below the usercmd.ini category. This category is only listed when anything other than the internal English language (the language stored in the executable) is used for the main menu in Total Commander.
  • Once one or more user-defined commands are added, you can select the category All and navigate to the user-defined commands located at the bottom.

When using either of these methods, the buttons New, Edit, Delete and Rename/Copy will appear for managing the user-defined commands.
