Ok, ok, if you think so, here is the same video in AVI format:
http://flint-inc.ru/Temp/tc/qs.avi
But to view this AVI you have to install MSU Screen Capture Lossless Codec, while the EXE version has the player inside and does not require any codecs.

Well, it's not an easy task at all, but if you go to this page, and find there the download link, and save it to your disk, and even manage to install it - then, after all this hard work you will be rewarded with an excellent screen capturing tool that allows capturing the screen video and importing them into several formats.

PS: Unfortunately, it's not cheap, but luckily for me it has a specific free version for Russians only (with some functions removed).

Oops, indeed. Clo, could you please split the discussion? (Maybe, even merge with this thread, but I'm not sure...)

Yes I really wonder why the intructions given here are not followed:
http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=12078

- The used codec is available on all Windows versions
- It doesn't have to be sqx (best compression of these files), 7z archives are not much larger and even rar compresses them fairly, just zip should be avoided.

CamStudio does not mark mouse clicks, which in some cases is critical.

Yes, but the video looks worse than after lossless compression created either by MSU codec or packed in uvScreenCamera EXE-videos.

That's indeed a point. There has been a successor o CamStudio but its devleopment been aborted. Maybe there are other programs who can also record the clicks?

I have never had any quality problems. Just the color depth is limited. Beside that it's lossless.

uvScreenCamera which I mentioned a bit earlier can do this. It can even distinguish and show double and triple clicks and keyboard hotkeys (not in free Russian version though).

No problems, of course. The difference is about the same to the difference between JPG and PNG formats: for screenshots the latter is much better, because JPG by its own nature cannot store correctly thin straight lines and there will always be some noise. I'm just a bit concerned that in some special cases (like the dotted rectangle) it may become significant.

<EDIT>
Oh, I was not watching for the new versions - a new uvScreenCamera 3.0 appeared, and in its free Russian version multiple clicks and keyboard shortcuts are now shown!

Well there are many programs which can do this. We need a free program which allows to do all the things we need.

Well the mentioned codec doesn't do quantization.

A new version of what? More details please!

What is it and what is it needed for?
Quantization is performed when saving a picture as JPEG. This leads to the well-known JPEG artifacts which are ok for non-professional pictures but unacceptable for screenshot captures.
Again this is what "Microsoft Video 1" and the optional codec offered by the makers of CamStudio doesn't do and it's really not a good idea to use such a codec.

A want a free version of TC only for citizens of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) :P

Ah, I see, thanks. So, actually I was talking about it without naming it so. :)

BTW, this is quite common feature of many Russian programmers' products. They often allow their compatriots to buy the program at less cost (Compare It! for example), or even give it freely (e.g. Far Manager, Kleptomania)... Maybe this is a common practice, I don't know as I very rarely read descriptions of the programs on languages other than Russian and English. :) So, maybe there are many programs written by Ouagadougouers which are free for all other citizens of this town. :D
